Our own test calls
We rang 29 Sydney law firms after 6pm.
had someone pick up.
What we do
Calls answered, enquiries qualified, details texted to the principal.
01
Tells you when you ask
Ask whether you’re speaking to a person and she tells you she’s an AI assistant.
02
Puts you through
Say “put me through” or sound frustrated, and she’ll try a live transfer to a real person, inside the hours the firm sets. Outside those hours she says so and keeps going.
03
Built to block legal advice before it’s said
A legal-advice block runs in code, before the model ever sees the caller’s sentence. It isn’t infallible. A conflict check can run against your list too, if you want one.
04
Seven fixed fields by default
By default, a legal enquiry is captured as seven fixed fields. There’s no free-text field, so a caller’s disclosure can’t end up in a log, a text message or a CRM. Anything beyond that is a question your firm chose to add.
The intake
Not a script. This is the order it works through, every time.
She takes the details. The principal gives the advice.
Every enquiry
Name, number and matter type, one question at a time, not a list fired at them. A conflict check against your client list can be added if you want it.
If it’s urgent
Family violence, an urgent injunction, a matter with a deadline this week. Flagged and passed straight to the principal, not left for the next business day.
What it won’t do
Give legal advice. Guess at your chances. Quote a fee beyond the consultation fee your firm has set. Promise a callback time nobody’s agreed to.
Pretend to be a person. Ask her outright and she’ll tell you.
Example call
Priya is a fictional caller. This is what an enquiry can sound like, from first hello to a consultation she can book.
Lucy
Thanks for calling Harbour and Vale Legal. Who am I speaking with?
Hi, it’s Priya. I’d like to book a time to talk to someone about separating from my husband.
Lucy
I can help with that. What’s the best number to reach you on?
0491 570 158, that’s fine.
Lucy
Thanks. And roughly what’s it about, so the principal’s ready when she calls?
We’re separating and need to sort out the house.
Lucy
Got it. I’ll text you a link so you can pick a time with her, and she’ll have your details before you speak. Anything else before I let you go?
Sent to the principal
NEW ENQUIRY · FAMILY LAW
Name: Priya · Matter: family
Phone: 0491 570 158
No advice given, no case facts assumed. Just the essentials, sent straight to the principal.
Try it yourself
Ring the intake yourself and try to get legal advice out of it. Ask whether you have a case. Ask about limitation periods. Ask what a matter is worth. Push it, change the subject, come back at it sideways.
We test it the same way, over and over, and keep every transcript. Ask and we’ll show you. We’d rather you found the edge on us than on a client’s call.

A written quote
Your quote depends on your firm’s size, call volume, integrations and setup. You get it in writing first.
02
30 days free before you’re charged
A card on file starts the trial. No payment until day 31. Cancel before then and you pay nothing.
03
The 5% guarantee
If Lucy misses more than 5% of the calls that reach her in a month, that month’s monthly fee is refunded.
Quotes are in Australian dollars. No GST is charged.
Data and trust
We capture contact details and matter type. By default we don’t hold the substance of a matter, that stays in your practice management system.
Our systems are hosted overseas, which is why the intake holds no case facts by default. If a firm adds its own questions, it holds only what the firm chose to ask.
FAQ
What do you actually do?
We answer your firm’s overflow and after-hours calls with an Australian AI phone intake. It takes the caller’s name, number and matter type, won’t give legal advice, and passes the enquiry straight to you. It can also send the caller a link to book a consultation and run a conflict check against your client list. You choose which of those you want.
Do you work with personal injury firms?
Yes, for the receptionist. We don’t advertise personal injury or compensation services, or run campaigns for that work. It’s a deliberate line, not an oversight.
What happens when someone calls or enquires?
The enquiry is answered, the caller’s name, number and matter type are captured, and, where your firm has a booking link set up, the caller is texted that link, so they book the way your customers already do. You get a text with the details when the call ends.
Do you give legal advice on the call?
No. The intake is built and tested to refuse legal questions, and to say plainly that it can’t advise. We test it adversarially before every change and keep the transcripts. Ring the demo and try. It gets the details to your principal and, where your firm has a booking link set up, texts the caller that link.
Is Lucy a lawyer?
Lucy is an automated administrative intake tool. She answers calls and enquiries for law firms, takes down the details and passes them to the firm. Lucy isn’t a lawyer, doesn’t give legal advice, and nothing she says creates a lawyer–client relationship with OB Automation or the firm.
What does it cost?
It depends on your firm: its size, your call volume, the systems Lucy connects to and what we set up. You get a written quote first. The first 30 days are free, you pay nothing until day 31, and if you cancel before then you pay nothing. See our Pricing page for how it works.
Which practice areas do you work with?
Family law, commercial, and wills and estates, for firms of roughly three to eight fee earners in metro Sydney.
How long does setup take?
If enquiries are answered on your existing firm number, forwarded on no-answer and busy, we can start within a few business days. A new dedicated number needs a carrier registration in your firm’s name, which typically adds a week or two and which we handle.
What happens outside business hours?
Enquiries can still be answered and captured overnight and on weekends, so an after-hours call doesn’t have to wait until Monday morning.
Hear it for yourself: ring the demo line on 0483 947 648, or tell us your practice areas and we’ll walk you through how it works. Book a call, or send us a few details and we’ll be in touch.
